Final Classmate Letter

April 1, 2023

Hello Classmates,

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in 2 weeks at Parizade starting at 6 PM. We currently have 110 attending with 70 classmates and 40 guests.

Important Information: Parizade

We have indoor and outside spaces.  There are two cash bars, one inside our private reserved room adjacent to the Courtyard, and one outside in the Courtyard.  Credit cards and cash are accepted at either bar. Soft drinks, water, tea and coffee are included. The appetizers and the dinner will be outside, weather permitting.  There are heat lamps if it gets cool in the evening, but you may want to bring a sweater or a wrap. Please share this with your guests.  If raining, food and drinks move indoors, however, there is still seating outside under the covered perimeter.  We have made play lists for music.

Parking:

When you arrive there is free parking in front of the restaurant at 2200 West Main St.   When this gets full, there is a free parking garage located behind Parizade.  The best entrance to use is past LOCAL 22 (restaurant) on the left side of Erwin Square, near Rutherford Street. Pull in that entrance, park on first level and then proceed out and to the front entrance of Parizade restaurant.

Check-In:

Enter the front entrance to Parizade and proceed through the dining area towards the Courtyard in the back, and check in at the registration table. Please pick up your Classmate name badge and your guest’s name badge.  A class roster will be on that table as well.  Please check your name and update any information or cross out any that you do not want shared.  We will update this and send out by request.

Timeline:

Appetizers will be served from 6-7 PM.  At approximately 7 PM we plan to take a Class picture with all 70 classmates!  After announcements, classmates only gather in front of the large welcome banner in the Courtyard for the picture.  We have hired a professional photographer for the evening.  Inside our private room, there is a photo booth area next to the bar.  Please grab a fun prop and click away and have some fun with this.

Dinner will be served at 7:30 PM.  It will be buffet style with open seating both inside and outside.  Cake and cookies will be served after dinner.  Dancing optional whenever the spirit moves you.

 Meet and Greet:

The Friday night Meet and Greet at The Honeysuckle at Lakewood, 1920 Chapel Hill Road, Durham will begin at 6 PM.  They have a limited menu that you can check on their website.

Food and drink will be ordered inside for pickup when ready.  Please meet outside under the large oak trees at the picnic tables.  Look for the large banner and balloons. Free parking is in front of the venue.  45-50 should be attending.

Saturday Tour of High School:

We will meet at 11 AM at 6806 Garrett Road. We are very fortunate to have one of our classmates, Mack Grady’s daughter, Megan Grady Frazier to be our tour guide.  Megan is a teacher at Jordan and is also Ruffin Grady’s and Beth Ennis Garrard’s niece. We are extremely grateful to Megan for taking us on this nostalgic walk down memory lane.

Contributions:

We are excited that 110 are registered and paid for the Saturday night event.  In the committee’s efforts to keep the costs as low as possible for attendees, the committee has generously donated much of the reunion costs. These donations actually came to around $1100. After donations, we still have a deficit of approximately $600. Any contributions towards this would be greatly appreciated. A reunion contribution jar will be at Parizade during our event.  Should we collect more than needed to cover the deficit, we will gift Jordan High School from the Class of 1973. Venmo, cash app, or checks would be welcomed as well.

Thank you all very much for your support and attendance and for making the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1973 a great success.
